Job Description
Job Summary: Under the direction of a Branch Manager or Department Head or Lead Worker in large branch libraries, the Library Assistant II is responsible for providing general library operational support and customer service responsibilities. Duties of the job involve learning and performing a variety of patron support and library functions including circulation desk activities; shelving materials; assisting patrons utilize library technology and locating materials; processing new library materials (i.e. magazines); applying labels and entering materials into the catalog system; opening and closing the library; or other functions trained and learned for the library assigned.
Distinguishing Characteristics: The Library Assistant II represents the second level in a four level classification series of Library Assistant. Positions in this classification series all perform duties and responsibilities at assigned branch libraries in support of library functions and
activities. Library Assistant II represents positions that involve learning, applying, and performing assigned branch functions, operations, and procedures of the library, emphasizing circulation duties, customer service, and some technology assistance provided to patrons. Library Assistant IIs differ from Library Assistant III in the degree of expectations and education and complexity of duties.
A classification description is designed to encompass a variety of different jobs that perform similar but different duties and work individual work assignments. A classification description, unlike a job description or position description, is designed to capture the general expectations, complexity level, and nature of work of any position that may be allocated to this classification.

SECTION II: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs and participates in circulation functions and activities.
a) Checks materials out to patrons and into the library.
b) Shelves returned materials.
c) Updates library records.
d) Prepares send list, fills patron requests, prepares for deliveries or checks in deliveries.
Starting salary: $15.78/hr. 10 hrs/week.
